Echoes of the heart by L.A. Casey

Blurb

When rock star Risk Keller shows up in Frankie’s diner with his heart on his sleeve, it turns her world upside down. Letting him go was the hardest thing she ever had to do. For years, his voice has been a reminder of everything she sacrificed, and now it’s time to face the music.

For Risk, coming home shows him what he’s always known deep down—every song, every gig, every drink, every girl—it’s always been about Frankie.

There’s no denying their intense chemistry. But Risk still has a career that takes him around the world; Frankie still has a sick mother she loves too much to leave. Can they overcome everything in their way to give first love a second chance?

My Review

I rarely read second chance romance novels because they really know how to break your heart and slowly put it back together. You know you'll be set up for devastation and you won't come out of it the same as you went in. Love and relationship take on a new perspective as the main characters navigate a new beginning after heartbreak.

"We were once pieces to a beautiful puzzle that fit together perfectly, but we've both changed, our edges are sharper now..."

I love this author's style of writing. I find it very relatable, realistic and I connect emotionally to the words. It deals with triggering topics such as substance and alcohol addiction, Alzheimer's, and physical abuse. It's raw and gritty at times. Not only does the author display love between the main characters, but the side characters show their love for them too. It's a group effort at healing and moving forward. It's quite beautiful.

To end on a funny note, I learned something new. Treasure trail! It's happy trail where I'm from but I think I'll adopt treasure trail instead.
