Spin the Shadows (Dark and Wicked Fae Book 1) by Cate Corvin

Blurb

I ate six seeds. Now I owe six months of debt to a dangerously sexy Fae hitman.
Iā€™d had everything a dryad could want - a job, an apartment, and a scandalous human boyfriend - Until I stole the wrong fruit from the wrong Fae.
Dragged into the Seelie underworld of deception and lies, I do anything he commands: steal, spy, even fight as we hunt down a notorious Fae fugitive.
Not exactly the fun I was looking for, despite the intense attraction between us. Between my new boss, the cold-as-ice Unseelie fixer, and a gorgeous Wild Hunter, I'm pulled into a world where danger is the only guarantee.
But when the mission ends, I may not want to leave.

My Review

You know those books that take their time setting up the story before getting to the good stuff...this isn't it. Cate Corvin drops you head first into this action packed urban fantasy. I'll admit it was a little confusing at first with all the names of places and people (all unusual of course) but I quickly fell into pace and really started to appreciate the unexpected start to this book. I'll also admit I'm not a huge urban fantasy fan but because she was able to maintain the pace with a lot of great action and story it also kept my attention and interest.
Cate Corvin did a wonderful job creating this world and her main characters. It all seems well thought out. Briallen is a strong female lead that is relatable. I found myself rooting for her the whole time. Briallen is a great example of someone who has a heartbreaking past but doesn't let the pain suffocate her and stop her from living her life. Her life is different from what she expected but I'm excited for her because I'm guessing she is meant for bigger things. I believe she will have a lot of growth over the series.
I can't forget to mention the three male leads. There is Robin, the smart and strong one who holds back his feelings a bit because he's a professional. Jack, the mysterious one who seems to have more answers than we may know. Lastly, Gwyn, the flirty bad boy that you just can't help but to be totally into right from the beginning. It does have some good quality steam, just not a ton. I can't be mad because it's labeled a medium-burn romance. I'm just thirsty.
Overall, it's a promising start. I'm excited to what happens next!
